The
Pearls of Hope, Lorraine Jackson Foundation provides
scholarships to children who have lost their Mom to
breast cancer.
Lorraine Jackson founded the organization after
surviving her breast cancer. After her successful
treatments and regaining health, she began counseling
women who were still fighting the disease. She heard
their worry about what would happen to their children
after they died, and would they still be able to attend
college.
Lorraine Jackson responded to this need and established
Pearls of Hope/The Lorraine Jackson Foundation and
through diligent efforts has partnering with Dollars for
Scholars to match the scholarships.
Celebrating its 5th anniversary this year,
the Foundation will award this years scholarships at the
October 26 th Pearls of Hope Gala.
Much of this information
can be found on the Foundation's website:
www.pearlsofhope.com, including how she was inspired
by the Hope pearl that... all things are possible.
The
Lorraine Jackson Foundation is predominantly a volunteer
organization and Lorraine is the biggest volunteer,
tirelessly mentoring the children before and after they
enter college, speaking out for early detection,
attending events for exposure and fundraising, all the
while working a full time job with a prominent law firm.
She
is a spokesperson for
the American Cancer Society and as an
Advocacy Ambassador,
was in Washington, D.C. lobbying for cancer research
funding. She has 3 times been awarded the
President's Award
from
the Consumer
Attorneys Association of Los Angeles. She
was named an
Outstanding Woman of
Achievement by the Century City Chamber of Commerce and
currently serves as Chair of the
Chamber's Women's Business Council.
Lorraine and The Lorraine
Jackson Foundation have received commendations and
certificates of recognition from many prominent persons,
including California Governor Gray Davis, Mayor James
Hahn, Jack Weiss, Councilmember 5th Dist., Paul Koretz,
California State Assembly, Henry Waxman, Member of
Congress, Senator Barbara Boxer, Senator Diane
Feinstein, and current California Governor
Arnold
Schwarzenegger.
October is breast cancer awareness month. Lorraine
credits early detection, and her faith, to her survival.
Her passion and her efforts make a difference in
countless lives.
