First Marketing Necessity:

Plan!

Have you ever considered...taking a trip to somewhere you have never been, a place you had heard about or dreamed about going?
How much planning did you do?
Did you ask directions? Did you obtain any maps?
Did you discuss your plans with anyone who had already been there? Did you conduct any research on the internet or through a travel agency?

Many people put more effort and planning into a party or a vacation, than they do in the progress of their business.

RESEARCH SHOWS US THAT:

85% of the businesses that do not take the time
to plan their marketing strategy will fail.

Of those businesses that do take the time
to write their plan AND follow their plan
 85% will succeed.

It is so much easier to hit a target that you can see

A strong marketing plan is a very precious commodity. Your marketing plan will give your business the momentum and magnetism to satisfy customers and attract prospects.

Technology is giving small business an advantage they can capitalize on and gain attention like larger businesses, without having to spend the large dollars. Are you using technology in your marketing efforts.

Essential components of a strong marketing plan include: planned consecutive marketing; public relations; promotions; advertising; management ,methods of measuring results and more.

RESEARCH SHOWS US THAT:
40% of businesses with a current, researched,  written strategic marketing plan
will double their business
within two years of writing their plan.

With a current, researched,  written strategic marketing plan,
greater than 70% of these businesses will exceed their own expectations
within the next 5 years.

Another Marketing Necessity:

Does it FIT?

Your marketing plan must be congruent with your business plan, your vision, your mission and your goals.

There are many available templates and sample marketing plans available. Although many of these are good, and many others are a good place to start, your business requires a plan that fits your specifics.

Templates are a great way to start, however, when you start filling in the blanks answer these questions for yourself and customize the template to Fit your business:

Are these answers SPECIFIC to your business?
Are the steps you are setting, SPECIFIC to your business? Are they steps you WILL take consistently?
Are the results you are seeking, congruent with the marketing efforts and steps you are outlining?
Is your marketing plan flexible enough to change with the market, your business and unexpected events?

Another Marketing Necessity:

Cultivating Fresh Ideas. Yesterday is NOT today...

What used to work 10 years ago, and even 5 years ago does not necessarily work in todays markets.

Fuller Brush made millions selling door-to-door. Today that concept doesn't work. Very few people are home during the daytime selling hours, and if they are, they seldom open their door to an unexpected salesperson.

Your marketing plan must be in tune with the times of today. The internet plays a substantial part of marketing today - you must have a website. However, having a website alone is not enough, you must market your website as well. All of your marketing efforts must tie in to each other, and all must be planned out.

Cultivating fresh ideas and stepping apart from the crowd will assist you in gaining advantage in your field. You can cultivate fresh ideas through mastermind groups, team building exercises and marketing workshops.

Another Marketing Necessity:

Keep marketing even when business looks great!

When  you keep a consistency to your marketing efforts when business is good, you will find business continues to come your way on a more consistent basis.

A huge mistake may people face is thinking that "business is good, so why bother marketing?"

If nature teaches us anything, it is that that no matter how many sunny days we have, there are also rainy days.

An essential part of marketing is to remain consistent, so if business slows down you are still in the race. If you cease your marketing efforts when business is good, your prospect may not notice you when you need them -  when your business slows down.

Research shows that many prospects need to see your ad 3-5 times before they consider doing business with you. When you are consistent in their mind, sometimes over a period of time, you have a better foundation established in their mind which will assist you in getting their eventual decision.

Another Marketing Necessity:

Delegate!

How many hats can you wear at once?

Have you heard the phrase "Jack of all trades, master of none?"

When a businessperson mistakenly thinks they can do it all, they may be spending more time on activities that could bring them a better return when delegated to someone else, In that way, they can focus their efforts on their specific talents and strengths; those things they do best, for the greatest return on their efforts.

When you consider marketing, you must think from your "prospects view" more than your own perspective.  When you work with a marketing consultant, they can assist you to see other views and possibiities.

Being able to run a successful business means learning to maximize your strengths and learning to delegate.

Another Marketing Necessity:

You must be consistent in your message

Think about this ...

When driving your car, and you come to an intersection, do you always stop, turn off the engine and sit there while you consider your choices.??

One obvious answer would be - if the light were red, or if there were a stop sign, you would stop, but then continue on your path. If you are unsure about your direction, you might hesitate for a few minutes (until someone honked their horn) at the intersection until you could make a decision. Regardless, it is pretty certain you wouldn't turn off your engine.

This scenario can compare to some people's marketing efforts. Many people do sporadic marketing - an occasional mailing or ad, and find their results are just as sporadic if existent. They stop and wait. Start again with guesswork or spontaneous decision, and then stop again and wait. The waiting usually is the turning off of the engine, and many times they let the engine get cold, so the starting up again takes more effort and burns more fuel.

In order to get consistent results, you must market consistently. When you write your plan, you will see a more clear path of your marketing commitments and projections.

Another Marketing Necessity:

Brand Yourself

Successful branding includes your logo, your slogan and your designs.

Think about some of the slogans or logos you remember. The reason they stay with you, is because the company picked that logo or slogan and used it consistently. They included it in every marketing and advertising activity. Their consistency "branded" that image or slogan into your mind. Now when you see the image, or hear the slogan, you immediately know who the company is.

Self Investment Company's trademark slogan is: The Investments we make in ourselves will always deliver the most profitable returns.

What is yours?
